The GRE stands for the Graduate Record Examinations, and is a popular test for graduate and business school. In august 2011, the old GRE is replaced by a revised GRE. It tests subjects on verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and analytical writing.

The GRE costs $160 in the U.S. and $190 in other countries.
Included In The Price Of The GRE
When you pay for the GRE, you will get:
- the GRE General Test. This is available online, and can be taken year round. When you register for a paper-based General Test or a Subject Test, you will be sent a pratice book for free.
- the GRE Subject Test. These tests measure performance in specific topics, such as biology, chemistry, Psysics and Math. This test is offered a couple of times per year, at the time of writing in October, November, and February.
- Test results are send to 4 schools
Additional Costs Of The GRE
- Late registration is possible for one week after the regular registration date closes, and can be done online. A late registration fee costs $25.
- A rescheduling fee is $50, for both date and location.
- If you want to learn the results by phone, you will pay an extra $12
- If you want to send your results to more schools, expect to pay an extra fee, around $23 per school.
Tips Before You Take The GRE
Although you can take the GRE whenever you want, it is better to take your GRE somewhere before September, as that is when the application season starts (until January). The Subject Test can take four to six weeks to reach the graduate school, so be sure to take the test in time.
If you are on financial aid, some fees might be waivered.
